Welcome to Ingenuity Coffee
COLOMBIA
Colombia was introduced in 2019. It’s like a thick story book, waiting for coffee seekers to discover interesting coffee and the stories behind it. At the end of the 2019, Natalia, our coffee seeker, visited this legendary land by riding a sturdy Colombian mule.
The first time when we got in contact with Colombia was the Cafe Andaqui, which is composed of the 2nd and 3rd young generation of coffee producers in the Huila. Some of them take over part of the coffee farms, and some become the owners of the farms, innovating coffee planting and production methods, as well as improving the coffee quality. Every producer is ambitious and energetic. They are the future of Colombian Coffee.
In October 2019, during the journey of Colombia, we were exposed to various advanced coffee equipment, such as the plastic sealed fermentation tanks with air valve and electric mesh screening machines etc., showing the seriousness and perseverance of Colombian coffee research.
The coffee regions in Colombia are located in the central mountains and in the southwest. Its main regions include Huila, Antioquia, Narino, Santander, Tolima, Cauca, and Quindio.
Huila is located in the southwest of Colombia and is the origin in Colombia that has coffee harvests throughout the year. Covered with fertile volcanic soil, it enjoys a prime location. The Colombian coffee produced in this region has obtained the PGI certification from the European Union. There are 67,000 coffee-growing families in Huila, accounting for 12% of the total coffee production in Colombia. So it is also one of the main coffee origins in Colombia.
Antioquia is located in the north-central part of Colombia, possessing a vast land and abundant resources. The coffee farmers there are keen on researching new processing methods. Thanks to the terrain of the mountains in that region, which is beneficial to the formation of coffee flavor, it is now one of the important origins of Colombian Specialty Coffee.
In recent years, special process have become popular, giving off amazing new flavors. These new flavors have drastically altered the usual steady characteristics of Colombian coffee, which attracts the public’s expectation.
In this land of abundant diversity of geography and flavor, the appearance of a new generation of young coffee producers and the continuous exploration of special processing methods and coffee varieties enable Colombian coffee to have unpredictable possibilities. We are looking forward to its vigorous development.
