At that time, with foreign investment assistance, Bolivia built coffee wet treatment plants, provided professional coffee training to coffee farmers, and improved the quality of coffee cherry. At the same time, Bolivia's cup of excellence competition also started in 2004 with funding support, and held continuously until 2009.
When coffee farmers were preparing for the next COE, they did not allow foreign funds to enter Bolivia for some political reasons. At that time, there was no other source of funds, and the development of specialty coffee industry slowed down. Twelve years after the competition stopped, this year (2022) was restarted to the private collection auction.
Bolivia's coffee varieties are mainly Typica, and almost all coffee is organic. Other major varieties include Caturra, Catuai, Java, and Geisha.
